I’m not a fan of Cornel West, nor do I think Eric Holder should be fired over the AP “scandal.” However, everything else about this article is right on time. It’s an EXCELLENT READ and a call to ACTION!!
Native Americans KNEW the air, land, mountains, rivers, oceans, animals, birds…everything is SACRED. Sacred to our well-being and lives. The greed of the wealthy, corporations and politicians is destroying us all, including them. How evil and stupid is it to think removing mountaintops in poor areas — that break the wind and help control climate — would not cause extreme disaster weather around the globe?
The winds begin in the West Coast. The beautiful mountain ranges here BREAK THE WIND as it reaches turbulent weather in the Mid West and tornado alley. These storms continue to the East Coast. With nothing to break their weather, the East Coast can expect horrendous hurricanes and colder weather. You can see that in your area. The seasons are changing and are extreme.
Native Americans KNEW that the oil and jewels deep in the ground are the VEINS aka the blood of the earth. It takes hundreds, even thousands of years for fossil fuels to regenerate. Trees too. The Rain Forests of Brazil have been a buffer for the entire planet. It too, has been decimated. The ice caps in Antarctica have melted, animals are migrating to areas they’ve never been before, while we are worried about Dancing With The Stars and the latest soap opera on the idiot tube.
Native Americans blessed the animals and food they ate because they KNEW it was for our sustenance and without it we could not live. Our food is being controlled and manipulated in labs to the point where we call it MONSTER FOOD. You wouldn’t want to give these GMO foods/seeds to a dog. It is changing our DNA.
Native Americans knew the water is PRECIOUS. We can go weeks without food, but only a few days without water. It is the MOST CRITICAL need for all life. Corporations have polluted our drinking water. Water is about to be privatized…and it will be expensive.
As this article says, it is time to rebel. ~MY
Joe Sacco and I spent two years reporting from the poorest pockets of the United States for our book “Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt.” We went into our nation’s impoverished “sacrifice zones” — the first areas forced to kneel before the dictates of the marketplace — to show what happens when unfettered corporate capitalism and ceaseless economic expansion no longer have external impediments. We wanted to illustrate what unrestrained corporate exploitation does to families, communities and the natural world. We wanted to challenge the reigning ideology of globalization and laissez-faire capitalism to illustrate what life becomes when human beings and the ecosystem are ruthlessly turned into commodities to exploit until exhaustion or collapse. And we wanted to expose as impotent the formal liberal and governmental institutions that once made reform possible, institutions no longer equipped with enough authority to check the assault of corporate power.
What has taken place in these sacrifice zones — in postindustrial cities such as Camden, N.J., and Detroit, in coalfields of southern West Virginia where mining companies blast off mountaintops, in Indian reservations where the demented project of limitless economic expansion and exploitation worked some of its earliest evil, and in produce fields where laborers often endure conditions that replicate slavery — is now happening to much of the rest of the country. These sacrifice zones succumbed first. You and I are next.

The Rise Of The Feudal Lords
What do you call a system where the will of 90% of the people is ignored? What do you call a system where financial institutions are deemed “too big to prosecute” and are raking in profits while the rest of the country is stagnating in the mess they created? What do you call a system where one party gets one million more votes in an election but loses leadership of the House of Representatives? What do you call a system that allows the theft of people’s homes, even when those people have never missed a payment? What do you call a system that then pays the victims of the theft pennies on the dollar and then those checks are hard to cash?
That system is called an oligarchy, defined by Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary as 1: government by the few 2: a government in which a small group exercises control esp. for corrupt and selfish purposes; also: a group exercising such control 3: an organization under oligarchic control. Boiled down, it’s just a word to describe the actions of people who are doing what the feudal lords of old did to our forbears – only worse. The feudal lords of today aren’t dressed in velvet head-dresses and long flowing robes. They are attired in Brooks Brothers suits. The power they wield is dizzying and they are drunk with it. They OWN this country and any little irritant, like an upstart black guy in the White House or the will of the people, isn’t going to upset their applecart because they hold all the cards and they intend to keep them.
Just like the serfs cowered in front of the lord who could kick them off the plot of land they farmed for him, the citizens of the United States have been kicked out of their homes, watched their retirements evaporate, and stood helplessly by when our Supreme Court endowed corporations with the same rights as individuals, thus dictating who is important and who is not. And now, the Supreme Court is going for an encore in McCutcheon vs. FEC.
…When a small minority dictates policy for the majority, you no longer have a democratic republic. You have an oligarchy and the people who run it, people like the Koch Brothers and Mitt Romney and Sheldon Adelson, are the ones calling the shots. They keep themselves hidden and send out their lackeys to do the dirty work; those lackeys being people like Rand Paul, Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor and John Boehner. Those guys want a crack at getting a big piece of the pie from the feudal lords and so they’ll sell you down the river while they look you in the eye and tell you it’s for your own good.
Our system is broken and one wonders if it is beyond repair. When the Attorney General of the United States tells us that the big banks are too big to prosecute, when not one of the fat cat bankers who pushed this country off a fiscal cliff is called to account, when the will of the people for sane and sensible gun laws takes a back seat to the will of the entitled few, then you know we have reached a point in time where we are in danger of losing it all.
The feudal lords use fear and prejudice to divide people. Just look at what happened with the Tea Party. This was a movement that originated in response to the bank bailout. They were angry and they let everyone know it. A lot of liberals were just as angry as all those original Tea Party folks. But the Tea Party has morphed into something else entirely. It didn’t happen because they were all “right wingers.” It happened because they were manipulated by the feudal lords who were behind the scenes and pulling strings. They watched as their puppets danced to their immigrant hating, racist tactics and they loved the great divide. We were already a country deeply scarred by the events of September 11, 2001. We were already at odds with each other about things that heretofore we NEVER would have countenanced, namely war crimes committed by an administration that was composed of oligarchs. Any chance at measured, productive conversation between the two sides is crushed without mercy in a barrage of misinformation geared to widen the gap between people who used to be able to, if not amicably disagree, at least respect that the other side has a right to their opinion. Now it’s just name-calling and shouting and nothing gets done. Which suits the feudal lords just fine because they are getting richer as they continue to steal the wealth of a nation. And those lackeys? When their usefulness is done, they will be turned out just as the serfs who were no longer needed were turned out. In the meantime, the rest of us will be wallowing in the mudpit we have been cast into, arguing about who should be allowed in this country and who shouldn’t.
It’s disgusting, really, how malleable the American public has become. We let it happen. We have allowed the feudal lords to tell us that no matter the cost, we must have our guns because the government is out to get us. They tell us that we have no money, so we must cut police and fire and, their very favorite for the chopping block, education. Education is always the first to be cut and the last to be restored. We are told that women should have no choice and to even think it is tantamount to murder. We are told that climate change is just an unproven theory, even though 97 per cent of the world’s scientists say otherwise. That doesn’t matter to the feudal lords who could care less about an oil spill or a fracking explosion in your back yard. They live in their grand homes, far from the danger and they are so blinded by their own greed that they don’t see that the demise of the environment will mean their demise as well as ours. So they’ll lay down and die covered with thousand dollar bills. But you know what? Dead is dead, whether you’re a prince or a pauper.
The only remedy lies with the people, and I am cautiously optimistic.
…The reason the people in government don’t do our bidding is because we have allowed a system to be put in place that effectively negates our power. People have DIED to protect our right to vote and yet, people stay home in droves on election day.
If you want to take this country back, no matter if you are on the right, on the left or somewhere in between, it is up to you—indeed, it is up to all of us—to stop bickering, to find common ground (because it IS there) and take back our democracy. It has never been easy and sometimes it hasn’t been pretty, but it has always worked. It can work again, but it will take the will of the people to overcome the will and the vast resources of the entitled few. Until then, we must come to terms with the fact that we no longer live in a democracy. We live in an oligarchy where the modern day feudal lords rule and we the people are expendable.

The human skin is the largest organ of the body. It is porous, so anything we put on the skin absorbs into the body and can either help it…or harm it. Years ago I worked with a woman who had cancerous lumps removed from under her armpits. Her doctor said it was from the chemicals in her deodorant. She was advised to never use deodorant again. At that time, we did not have organic deodorants. I have no idea what she used back in 1975. I am now using this homemade deodorant with tea tree oil for its healing properties and am pleased with it. Let me know if you try it. ~ Marion

Homemade Deodorant Recipe using Coconut Oil
1/3 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder
4 tablespoons cornstarch (this will add an antiperspirant effect to the deodorant.)
Essential oils (optional, but you can use tea tree oil, sweet orange, cinnamon, etc.)
Notes from the article:
This recipe uses coconut oil which will liquefy at 76 degrees (it will remain solid at any temp under 76 degrees). I live in Florida and this deodorant stays a paste-like consistency in my bathroom. However, my husband uses the bathroom upstairs and, at times, it turns into a thick liquid-y consistency. He doesn’t find it a problem, though. He just dabs his finger into it, massages it into his underarms, and then rinses his hands afterward.
I’ve heard of people putting their homemade deodorants in cleaned out store-bought deodorant containers but it didn’t work for me. My DIY deodorant leaked out the bottom of the container and was a gooey mess.
Instead, I store this coconut oil deodorant in a small glass jar and I keep it in my medicine cabinet.
To apply, I take a small amount and rub it together with my hands to soften and then rub it into my underarms like a lotion.
Me and my husband both use this deodorant and absolutely love it. We’d never switch back to store-bought. You really must give it a try.

Love this story! I wonder what I can retrofit around the home…
In 2011, New York City decommissioned its last single-space parking meter. Many of the parking meters were sold, but discontinuing the use of single-space parking meters meant that there were thousands of iron poles sticking out of the sidewalks. Now the city has a plan for them: bike parking.
The city’s department of transportation has signed a $2 million contract to turn 12,000 old parking meter poles into bike racks. But is it worth the money? You bet, the New York Post reports:
Although the $1.9 million contract might seem like a lot, officials say that using existing infrastructure saves money because they don’t have to rip out the poles.
And because they’re made out of sturdy old parking meters, they are more difficult to steal.
Across the United States of America, citizens are disappointed in their government.
While the nation grapples with historical debt, a recession, energy dependence, inflation , terrorism, and wars we cannot afford, our politicians are asleep at the wheel.
The system is broken. Our government has been corrupted by money. We need Congress to solve the nation’s problems, instead our politicians are out raising money for re-election. The country is run by lobbyists – fighting on behalf of big oil, pharmaceuticals, military contractors, labor unions, trial lawyers, insurance companies, food corporations, and on and on. We may never get rid of lobbyists and big financial donors. But we all agree: citizens should come first.
Our government is corrupt. We need to fix it. We have a plan. We need your help.

filiYou’ll want to read this one…
Another year of politics is behind us – one which focused on the presidential run and the madness which is the Republican Party. Even with the decisive election loss, Republicans refuse to set the madness aside and work with Democrats for the common good of the country.
Conservative Andrew Sullivan has had enough and writes of it in a post he aptly titles “Enough!”. I quote in full.
Between the humiliating and chaotic collapse of Speaker Boehner’s already ludicrously extreme Plan B and Wayne La Pierre’s deranged proposal to put government agents in schools with guns, the Republican slide into total epistemic closure and political marginalization has now become a free-fall. This party, not to mince words, is unfit for government.
There is no conservative party in the West – except for minor anti-immigrant neo-fascist ones in Europe – anywhere close to this level of far right extremism. And now the damage these fanatics can do is not just to their own country – was the debt ceiling debacle of 2011 not enough for them? – but to the entire world.
Those of us who have warned for years about this disturbing trend toward ever more extreme measures – backing torture, pre-emptive un-budgeted wars, out-of-control spending followed, like a frantic mood swing, by anti-spending absolutism of the most insane variety in a steep recession, vicious hostility to illegal immigrants, contempt for gay couples, hostility even to contraception, let alone a middle ground on abortion … well, you know it all by now.
But the current constitutional and economic vandalism removes any shred of doubt that this party and its lucrative media bubble is in any way conservative. They aren’t. They’re ideological zealots, indifferent to the consequences of their actions, contemptuous of the very to-and-fro essential for the American system to work, gerry-mandering to thwart the popular will, filibustering in a way that all but wrecks the core mechanics of American democracy, and now willing to acquiesce to the biggest tax increase imaginable because they cannot even accept Obama’s compromise from his clear campaign promise to raise rates for those earning over $250,000 to $400,000 a year.
And this is not the exception. It is the rule. On abortion, the party proposes that it be made illegal in every state by amending the Constitution. Torture? More, please. Iran? It should be attacked if it merely develops the technological skill to make a nuclear bomb, let alone actually make one. Israel? Leading Republicans don’t just support new settlements on the West Bank. They show up for the opening ceremonies!
Gun control? A massacre of children leads to a proposal for more guns in elementary schools and no concession on assault weapons. Immigration? Romney represented the party base – favoring a brutal regime of persecution of illegal immigrants until they are forced to “self-deport” – or rounding as many up as they can. Climate change? It’s a hoax – and we should respond by shrieking “Drill, Baby, Drill!” Gay marriage? The federal constitution should be amended to bar any legal recognition of any gay relationships, including civil partnerships. Their legislative agenda in this Congress? To “make Obama a one-term president.” Not saving the economy, not pursuing new policies, not cooperating to make Democratic legislation better. Just destroying a president of the opposite party. And, of course, failing.
Then there is the rhetoric. In just the last fortnight, House Republicans have asserted that secretary of state Clinton faked her recent fall and concussion at home in order to get out of testifying on the Benghazi consulate attack. And then the Weekly Standard quotes a Senate Republican staffer saying: “Send us Hagel and we will make sure every American knows he is an anti-Semite.”
Enough. This faction and its unhinged fanaticism has no place in any advanced democracy. They must be broken. But the current irony is that no one has managed to expose their extremism more clearly than their own Speaker. His career is over. As is the current Republican party. We need a new governing coalition in the House – Democrats and those few sane Republicans willing to put country before ideology. But even that may be impossible.
Unhinged fanaticism…and it’s not about to end any time soon.
Most people want to know what is going on in our world. Most people watch the news trying to learn. The problem is corporate news is run by the same corporations that cause all the problems.

I’ve been following this “theory” for years and know it is true as well. On days when the trails are in the sky, I stay indoors. Inside, I have air filters that hopefully clear some of the inside air. Yes, we ARE being poisoned!
