An Open Letter to People Who Hate Obama More Than They Love America

This excellent article is from 2012 and is even more on target today…

An Open Letter to People Who Hate Obama More Than They Love America
by MinistryOfTruth

I meet you all the time. You hate Obama. You hate gay people. You hate black people, immigrants, Muslims, labor unions, women who want the right to make choices concerning their bodies, you hate em all. You hate being called racist. You hate being called a bigot. Maybe if you talked about creating jobs more than you talk about why you hate gay people we wouldn’t call you bigots. Maybe if you talked about black people without automatically assuming they are on food stamps while demanding their birth certificates we wouldn’t call you racist. You hate socialism and social justice. You hate regulations and taxes and spending and the Government. You hate.

You like war. You like torture. You like Jesus. I don’t know how in the hell any of that is compatible, but no one ever accused you haters of being over-committed to ideological consistency. You like people who look like you or at least hate most of the things that you hate. You hate everything else.

Now, I know you profess to love our country and the founding fathers (unless you are reminded that they believed in the separation of church and state), but I need to remind you that America is NOT what Fox News says it is. America is a melting pot, it always has been. We are a multi-cultural amalgamation of all kinds of people, and yet you still demonize everyone who is not a rich, white, heterosexual christian male or his submissive and obedient wife.

You hate liberals, moderates, hell, anyone who disagrees with Conservative dogma as espoused by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. You hate em.

Well, here are the facts, Jack. If you hate the Government then you are unqualified to manage it. If you hate gay people more than you love America than you should take your own advice and get the hell out. There are several countries that are openly hostile to gay people, but they are full of brown people and you don’t like them much either from what I understand. It looks like you are screwed, but that’s not what I am here to tell you.

Now that you have thrown everything and the kitchen sink at President Obama and it still hasn’t worked you are panicking. Obama’s approval ratings are still near 50% despite your best efforts to undermine the economy and America’s recovery at every step you can. You tried to hold the American economy hostage to force America into default on its’ debts, debts that YOU rang up under Bush, so you could blame it on Obama and it failed. You’ve used the filibuster more than any other Congress ever, going so far as to vote against providing health care access to 9/11 first responders. You remember 9/11, don’t you, it’s that thing you used to lie us into a war in Iraq, and then when Obama killed Bin Laden and ended the war in Iraq you told people that he hates America and wants the troops to fail. You monsters. You hate Obama with a passion, despite the fact that he is a tax cutting, deficit reducing war President who undermines civil rights and delivers corporate friendly watered down reforms that benefit special interests just like a Republican. You call him a Kenyan. You call him a socialist. You dance with your hatred singing it proudly in the rain like it was a 1950’s musical.

Frankly, you disgust me. Your hatred nauseates me. Your bigotry offends me. Your racism revolts me.

Dear haters, I am openly questioning your patriotism.

I think you hate gays, Obama, black people, poor people, all of us, women, atheists and agnostics, Latinos, Muslims, Liberals, all of us, I think you hate every one who isn’t exactly like you, and I think you hate us more than you love your country.

I think you hate gay soldiers more than you want America to win its wars.

I don’t even think you want America to win wars, you just want America to have wars, never ending wars and the war profiteering it generates. You love that kind of spending, you love spending on faith based initiatives and abstinence based sex education (George Carlin would have loved that one), you love spending on subsidies for profitable oil corporations, you spend like drunken sailors when you are in the White House, but if it is a Democrat then suddenly you cheer when America doesn’t get the Olympics because it might make the black President look bad. But oooh you love your country, you say, and you want it back. Well listen here skippy, it isn’tyour country, you don’t own it, it is our country, and America is NOT the religiously extremist Foxbots who hate science, elitist professors and having a vibrant and meaningful sex life with someone we love if Rick Santorum doesn’t approve of it. Rick Santorum isn’t running for America’s fucking high school dance chaperone, he should probably just shut the hell up about sex, but he can’t because he has nothing else to run on.

Republicans can NOT win on the issues. They’ve got NOTHING. All they have is a divide and conquer class war that pits ignorant racist and bigoted people against the rest of us in a meaningless battle of wedge issues and the already proven to fail George W. Bush agenda again of tax cuts for the rich, deregulation, privatization and war profiteering and nothing else, so all they can do is blame black people, gays the government, anybody and everyone else for their own failings. The party of personal responsibility, my ass.

But they love multi-national corporations, just ask a gay hating and racist religious extremist if they think Corporations are people and they will gladly agree, but if you ask them if gay people are people they aren’t so sure.

Dear haters, you are the cruel, heartless misinformed assholes who would sell America out to Haliburton in a heartbeat, you would rather pay ZERO taxes than you would see a newly born baby get access to quality health care, you cheer when we discuss denying health care to young people with preventable diseases, and you boo when we discuss the First Ladies plan to cut back on childhood obesity. You are a cross to carry and a flag to wrap yourself in away from being the people who Sinclair Lewis warned us about, but I guarantee that if Fox News told you to dress that way you would, because you are the same blind, ignorant and closed minded dunces who drove this country into a civil war years ago because you are bound to the notion that some men are more equal than others. In short, the reason I proudly wear my union army hat is because of seditious sell outs like you who constantly fuck over working class Americans so a foreign entrepreneur like Rupert Murdoch can get a bigger tax break. If corporations are people, they are neither American patriots nor capable of love. Just like you.

So stop wearing your hate with pride. Stop celebrating your anti-science, anti-math ignorance. Stop using code words to mask your bigotry like “family values”, especially when you hate my family and when you stand on the same stage as a guy who has had three marriages or if you share a seat in the Senate with a guy who cheated on his wife with hookers while wearing diapers. You should be ashamed. I know that you are just doing this to motivate your misinformed hate cult base because if they actually knew that your ideas will make them poorer than they are now, they would never vote for you. You are doing your best to impoverish your countrymen so rich people can get bigger tax breaks and you can keep on delivering corporate welfare to the special interests who have bribed you, and I am disgusted by the way you gleefully parade your hatred with aplomb. I don’t think you do love America. At least, not as much as you hate everyone in America who isn’t exactly like you.

You should think about that, and maybe get some help.

And for the record, I do not hate you. I am embarrassed by you and nauseated by your cruel and thoughtless behavior and your all consuming greed, but I do not hate you. I forgive you and I hope you can change someday, but I don’t hate you. You have enough hate in you for the rest of us as it is.

What happened to Black Wall Street on June 1, 1921?

Many racists in America like to point out that African Americans should become entrepreneurs and build their own communities for prosperity, rather than rely on government assistance and settle for low-paying jobs. If you don’t know history, if you don’t understand the climate to prevent blacks from getting an affordable education today, housing, fair loans and not be herded off to prison for crimes overlooked for whites, you could not possibly understand that blacks HAVE successfully been independent of the system and thrived. All that was destroyed, not just in Tulsa, OK, but in several other communities. Jewish communities are all over the U.S. We have the Amish doing the same thing. Look at the Mormons. But blacks doing for themselves?  Oh no, we can’t possibly allow that. Yet these people and politicians will continue to point fingers and say blacks are lazy and apathetic.

Every American who cares about this nation should read this story. It will explain so many questions about what happened after slavery, Jim Crow and the escalation of racism today. It’s a story about power, envy, jealousy, hate, oppression…and evil. ~Marion Young

What happened to Black Wall Street on June 1, 1921?
San Francisco Bay View

Black Wall Street, the name fittingly given to one of the most affluent all-Black communities in America, was bombed from the air and burned to the ground by mobs of envious Whites. In a period spanning fewer than 12 hours, a once thriving Black business district in northern Tulsa lay smoldering – a model community destroyed and a major African-American economic movement resoundingly defused.

The night’s carnage left some 3,000 African Americans dead and over 600 successful businesses lost. Among these were 21 churches, 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores and two movie theaters, plus a hospital, a bank, a post office, libraries, schools, law offices, a half dozen private airplanes and even a bus system. As could have been expected, the impetus behind it all was the infamous Ku Klux Klan, working in consort with ranking city officials and many other sympathizers.

The best description of Black Wall Street, or Little Africa as it was also known, would be to compare it to a mini Beverly Hills. It was the golden door of the Black community during the early 1900s, and it proved that African Americans could create a successful infrastructure. That’s what Black Wall Street was all about.

The dollar circulated 36 to 100 times, sometimes taking a year for currency to leave the community. Now a dollar leaves the Black community in 15 minutes. As for resources, there were Ph.D.s residing in Little Africa, Black attorneys and doctors. One doctor was Dr. Berry, who owned the bus system. His average income was $500 a day, hefty pocket change in 1910.

These are Black-built, Black-owned buildings that were occupied by bustling Black businesses before envious whites rioted and destroyed them.

It was a time when the entire state of Oklahoma had only two airports, yet six Blacks owned their own planes. It was a very fascinating community.

The mainstay of the community was to educate every child. Nepotism was the one word they believed in. And that’s what we need to get back to. The main thoroughfare was Greenwood Avenue, and it was intersected by Archer and Pine Streets. From the first letters in each of those three names you get G.A.P. And that’s where the renowned R&B music group the GAP Band got its name. They’re from Tulsa.

At the end of the day, June 1, 1921, this is what remained of Black Wall Street. Lost forever were over 600 successful businesses, including 21 churches, 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores, two movie theaters, a hospital, a bank, a post office, libraries, schools, law offices, a half dozen private airplanes and a bus system.

Black Wall Street was a prime example of the typical Black community in America that did business, but it was in an unusual location. You see, at the time, Oklahoma was set aside to be a Black and Indian state. There were over 28 Black townships there. One third of the people who traveled in the terrifying “Trail of Tears” alongside the Indians between 1830 and 1842 were Black people. The citizens of this proposed Indian and Black state chose a Black governor, a treasurer from Kansas named McDade. But the Ku Klux Klan said that if he assumed office that they would kill him within 48 hours.

Here, the businesses that had been the economic engine of this most prosperous Black community in the U.S. are identified.

A lot of Blacks owned farmland, and many of them had gone into the oil business.

The community was so tight and wealthy because they traded dollars hand to hand and because they were dependent upon one another as a result of the Jim Crow laws. It was not unusual that if a resident’s home accidentally burned down, it could be rebuilt within a few weeks by neighbors. This was the type of scenario that was going on day to day on Black Wall Street.

When Blacks intermarried into the Indian culture, some of them received their promised “40 acres and a mule” and with that came whatever oil was later found on the properties. On Black Wall Street, a lot of global business was conducted.

The community flourished from the early 1900s until June 1, 1921. That’s when the largest massacre of nonmilitary Americans in the history of this country took place, and it was led by the Ku Klux Klan. Imagine walking out of your front door and seeing 1,500 homes being burned. It must have been amazing.

Survivors we interviewed think that the whole thing was planned, because during the time that all of this was going on, White families with their children stood around the borders of their community and watched the massacre – the looting and everything – much in the same manner they would watch a lynching. The riots weren’t caused by anything Black or White. They were caused by jealousy.

A lot of White folks had come back from World War I and they were poor. When they looked over into the Black communities and realized that Black men who fought in the war had come home heroes, that helped trigger the destruction. It cost the Black community everything, and not a single dime of restitution – no insurance claims – has been awarded the victims to this day. Nonetheless, they rebuilt.

We estimate 1,500 to 3,000 people were killed, and we know that a lot of them were buried in mass graves all around the city. Some were thrown into the river. As a matter of fact, at 21st Street and Yale Avenue, where there now stands a Sears parking lot, that corner used to be a coal mine. They threw a lot of the bodies into the shafts.

The Rise Of The Feudal Lords

The Rise Of The Feudal Lords

What do you call a system where the will of 90% of the people is ignored? What do you call a system where financial institutions are deemed “too big to prosecute” and are raking in profits while the rest of the country is stagnating in the mess they created? What do you call a system where one party gets one million more votes in an election but loses leadership of the House of Representatives? What do you call a system that allows the theft of people’s homes, even when those people have never missed a payment? What do you call a system that then pays the victims of the theft pennies on the dollar and then those checks are hard to cash?

That system is called an oligarchy, defined by Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary as 1: government by the few 2: a government in which a small group exercises control esp. for corrupt and selfish purposes; also: a group exercising such control 3: an organization under oligarchic control. Boiled down, it’s just a word to describe the actions of people who are doing what the feudal lords of old did to our forbears – only worse. The feudal lords of today aren’t dressed in velvet head-dresses and long flowing robes. They are attired in Brooks Brothers suits. The power they wield is dizzying and they are drunk with it. They OWN this country and any little irritant, like an upstart black guy in the White House or the will of the people, isn’t going to upset their applecart because they hold all the cards and they intend to keep them.

Just like the serfs cowered in front of the lord who could kick them off the plot of land they farmed for him, the citizens of the United States have been kicked out of their homes, watched their retirements evaporate, and stood helplessly by when our Supreme Court endowed corporations with the same rights as individuals, thus dictating who is important and who is not. And now, the Supreme Court is going for an encore in McCutcheon vs. FEC.

…When a small minority dictates policy for the majority, you no longer have a democratic republic. You have an oligarchy and the people who run it, people like the Koch Brothers and Mitt Romney and Sheldon Adelson, are the ones calling the shots. They keep themselves hidden and send out their lackeys to do the dirty work; those lackeys being people like Rand Paul, Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor and John Boehner. Those guys want a crack at getting a big piece of the pie from the feudal lords and so they’ll sell you down the river while they look you in the eye and tell you it’s for your own good.

Our system is broken and one wonders if it is beyond repair. When the Attorney General of the United States tells us that the big banks are too big to prosecute, when not one of the fat cat bankers who pushed this country off a fiscal cliff is called to account, when the will of the people for sane and sensible gun laws takes a back seat to the will of the entitled few, then you know we have reached a point in time where we are in danger of losing it all.

The feudal lords use fear and prejudice to divide people. Just look at what happened with the Tea Party. This was a movement that originated in response to the bank bailout. They were angry and they let everyone know it. A lot of liberals were just as angry as all those original Tea Party folks. But the Tea Party has morphed into something else entirely. It didn’t happen because they were all “right wingers.” It happened because they were manipulated by the feudal lords who were behind the scenes and pulling strings. They watched as their puppets danced to their immigrant hating, racist tactics and they loved the great divide. We were already a country deeply scarred by the events of September 11, 2001. We were already at odds with each other about things that heretofore we NEVER would have countenanced, namely war crimes committed by an administration that was composed of oligarchs. Any chance at measured, productive conversation between the two sides is crushed without mercy in a barrage of misinformation geared to widen the gap between people who used to be able to, if not amicably disagree, at least respect that the other side has a right to their opinion. Now it’s just name-calling and shouting and nothing gets done. Which suits the feudal lords just fine because they are getting richer as they continue to steal the wealth of a nation. And those lackeys? When their usefulness is done, they will be turned out just as the serfs who were no longer needed were turned out. In the meantime, the rest of us will be wallowing in the mudpit we have been cast into, arguing about who should be allowed in this country and who shouldn’t.

It’s disgusting, really, how malleable the American public has become. We let it happen. We have allowed the feudal lords to tell us that no matter the cost, we must have our guns because the government is out to get us. They tell us that we have no money, so we must cut police and fire and, their very favorite for the chopping block, education. Education is always the first to be cut and the last to be restored. We are told that women should have no choice and to even think it is tantamount to murder. We are told that climate change is just an unproven theory, even though 97 per cent of the world’s scientists say otherwise. That doesn’t matter to the feudal lords who could care less about an oil spill or a fracking explosion in your back yard. They live in their grand homes, far from the danger and they are so blinded by their own greed that they don’t see that the demise of the environment will mean their demise as well as ours. So they’ll lay down and die covered with thousand dollar bills. But you know what? Dead is dead, whether you’re a prince or a pauper.

The only remedy lies with the people, and I am cautiously optimistic.

…The reason the people in government don’t do our bidding is because we have allowed a system to be put in place that effectively negates our power. People have DIED to protect our right to vote and yet, people stay home in droves on election day.

If you want to take this country back, no matter if you are on the right, on the left or somewhere in between, it is up to you—indeed, it is up to all of us—to stop bickering, to find common ground (because it IS there) and take back our democracy. It has never been easy and sometimes it hasn’t been pretty, but it has always worked. It can work again, but it will take the will of the people to overcome the will and the vast resources of the entitled few. Until then, we must come to terms with the fact that we no longer live in a democracy. We live in an oligarchy where the modern day feudal lords rule and we the people are expendable.

Turning the light on brightly for you…

The Big ‘IF’ on Election Day for President Obama

Chris Matthews: Let me finish tonight with tomorrow’s election

If.

Tonight it’s all about this: “If.”

If President Obama wins the election, it’s because of some vital actions he’s taken in office.

He rescued the American auto industry, one of those decisions that separates the two parties. This is important. Mitt Romney’s opposition to the rescue of Chrysler and General Motors wasn’t some isolated decision. His entire philosophy was against it.

A second step Obama took was to give legal relief to young people brought into this great country by their parents. When the Congress held him up on the DREAM Act, he did what he could by executive action.

Those he helped are not just the innocents here. They are future Americans because of him, hopeful of their lives, secure in their prospects because of this president. Instead of helping them “self-deport,” as his rival recommended, he welcomed them in our country and cheered them. Again, the action mattered and it separated him from the other candidate in vital ways.

If President Obama wins tomorrow, it’s because of other actions that carry tremendous vitality.

Equal pay for women. It’s the law and its enforceable because of the Lilly Ledbetter Act this president passed into law.

And open service—again, it was this president who established open service in the U.S. military. No more “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” That’s gone. You don’t have to pretend. You don’t have to hide to serve. You don’t have to hide a part of your life to put all of it on the line for your country.

And, as commander-in-chief, he led the action that achieved, finally, the mission of this country since 9/11: justice for the person who masterminded the killing of so many thousands of innocent Americans.

And he ended the American war in Iraq, and is ending it in Afghanistan by date certain.

And it’s been in the headlines what an exemplary job that he’s done leading the recovery effort from Tropical Storm Sandy, done so in a way that perfectly displayed bi-partisan cooperation in a tough situation.

He did that. Barack Obama.

As I said, the word tonight is “if.” If this president is re-elected tomorrow it’s because of the bold, controversial actions he’s taken. His margin of victory will have emerged from his margin of guts. He acted where others might have flinched or flubbed or said “we don’t need government to do these things.”

Now to the biggest “ifs”…

What the American people do tomorrow, what they’ve begun doing since voting first opened in this election.

If Barack Obama is re-elected, it is because of the historic alliance he struck when he asked New York Senator Hillary Clinton to be his Secretary of State. Offering her the most exciting, most distinguished position in the cabinet was a gesture that will go down in the history books. Her acceptance of this high position, along with her requirement of full autonomy in sub-cabinet appointments, was the deal-maker.

I grew up with the phrase “Democrats in Disarray” as a cliché, a headline written up when nothing was new, the old norm, the joke.

Today, tonight, the Democratic Party is united, with former President Bill Clinton losing his voice because he’s worked so hard for the president (the former president spoke tonight in Philadelphia and Scranton as the Obama campaign’s closer). There could be no more dramatic testament to this powerful alliance than what we’re seeing in the campaign’s close.

Powerful. That’s the only word to describe the Obama-Clinton alliance that could define the Democratic Party for years ahead. If Obama wins tomorrow, it’s due in powerful part to what Bill Clinton has been doing for weeks, the excellent work Hillary has been doing for four years.

If President Obama wins tomorrow, it is because of other Americans are doing their part.

Progressives. People on the progressive side of the party have stuck with this president, and stuck strong. Recognizing you can’t get it all, and certainly not all at once, they have seen the full dimensions of this race. They have looked at and heard the words spoken on the other side and have been left with an even surer sense of what matters. If the president wins tomorrow night, it will be because the progressives stuck, stuck hard and worked. They have kept the faith.

If the president wins tomorrow, it is because women learned the hard way that it still matters: the Supreme Court is perilously close to going the other way on reproductive rights, that belief in a woman’s right to think and to care and to be good is not something shared equally across the political spectrum. The crazy things said by certain Republican Senate candidates is not background music; it is coming from the same right-wing mindset that loves nothing, including human freedom, more than it loves the past, indeed, the distant past.

If the president wins it will because all the people who benefited from what he had the guts and foresight to do stand up and do their part. He wins if those who despise racial and ethnic prejudice act wake tomorrow hearing those horrible words that have been called out angrily against this president.

They will vote because they know deep in their suffering souls that those words, that villainy that has been rained on the president – that he’s not legitimately one of us, that he’s not really an American, that he is “lazy,” that he does not really love this country, is not aimed at him alone.

Not my any means. This diatribe from that side is not aimed at one, lone man. Those words—”food stamps” and “welfare” and “lazy” and un-American and all the rest—have been handcrafted by history to destroy the rightful place in this country of too many good people to be counted. They will not stop from being spoken even if Obama wins to tomorrow. But let those words win tomorrow and you let those who spoke them win. And they will do it with more vehemence and all the more full-throatedness the next time and the next.

So tonight, I think of that word “if” because tomorrow, perhaps late tomorrow, it will be different. We will know who showed up and who didn’t. We will hear of the angry voter out to rid himself of Obama. The big “if” is whether we will hear the same of the young, the hopeful, the believers in a better country, a fair-er country, a country where opportunity is democratic and American, where justice is reachable, closer to reality because of what we—all of us—do tomorrow.

USAF to the rescue

USAF to the rescue! Power equipment arrives in NY today…1st of 17 planes flown in from around the country. What a difference from Katrina! This is what a REAL leader does. A real leader who CARES about his people and country. A real leader who does his job well.

Thank you, President Obama!!!
