The GOP Stands With Putin

Tracy Knauss nails it…

G.O.P = GUSHING OVER PUTIN. The GOP leaders would rather support a communist leader, and former head of the KGB, than support their own president, even in an international crisis!! It’s amazing what having a Black Man in the White House can do. It can cause the closet racists and bigots to come out into the open and form a national party of supposed patriots. And it can make the GOP leaders praise a Russian despot over their own POTUS. Face it, the GOP HATES women, they HATE Blacks, they HATE Latinos, they HATE Gays, and yet they LOVE Putin. What a crock of cascading crap that is. But that’s today’s GOP. They would rather embrace a communist despot than salute their own commander in chief. Traitors much? That’s the new GOP leadership. And that’s just one more reason to NEVER vote for a Republican. Remember this, come November.

You cannot make this up. All those years of hating on Putin and Russia and now a complete turnaround. The disrespect shown toward this President is beyond the pale. During a crisis like this, all Americans are expected to support our leader, ESPECIALLY Congress.

I am so ashamed of these anti-Americans and haters.  This is our year to turn this mess around.

As a commenter at the link wrote:

A good leader sees war as a last resort! Can you imagine if McCain had become president in ’08!?! We would still have the Iraq war, the Afghanistan war and we would be at war with Iran, North Korea, Syria, and a push for Russian war!

The GOP is as insane as their racist voters. 2014. You know what to do.

Sometimes the only way to win is not to play!

Benjamin T. Moore, Jr. raises an excellent point:

When use of the “N-Word,” becomes the litmus test for racism, then ardent racist like Rush Limbaugh can claim to be non-racist because no one has yet to come forward to out him for having said it. White people who are comfortable with their separatist attitudes – many don’t realize they have them – are quick to seize on use of the “N-Word” as being the litmus test. “So long as I don’t say that word, I’m not a racist!” Thus they can support all manner of racist positions. The President is Kenyan. He wasn’t born here. He’s un-American, our economic woes are due to minorities on welfare… on and on.

Paula Deen – bless her soul – simply doesn’t get it. In truth, because of her history and upbringing, she may well be incapable of ever getting it. She’s not the problem. You can see her coming from a “Y’all” away. The problem is the corporate bigwigs that run corporations like the Food Network. They’re racist to their core. When Paula Deen started talking about the beauty of an “Old Southern Wedding” served by Black people dressed as Slaves, they should have cut ties with her back then. They might have said that her views were inconsistent with the audience they were trying to build and attract. They did not. They were comfortable chalking it up to her eccentricities. Why? Because for them, the litmus test for racism is use of the “N-Word.”

A white banker doesn’t have to call a black person applying for a loan a “nigger.” All he has to do is make sure he gets his loan at a higher interest rate. An insurance company doesn’t have to call a Black person a “nigger,” all they have to do is determine where minority communities are located and designate those areas for higher insurance rates. The company a Black person works for doesn’t have to call them a “nigger.” All they have to do is pay them less than the white person working beside them doing the exact same job. When we allow use of the “N-Word” to become the litmus test for racism, we are deluding ourselves about reality and the way the world works.

What happened to Black Wall Street on June 1, 1921?

Many racists in America like to point out that African Americans should become entrepreneurs and build their own communities for prosperity, rather than rely on government assistance and settle for low-paying jobs. If you don’t know history, if you don’t understand the climate to prevent blacks from getting an affordable education today, housing, fair loans and not be herded off to prison for crimes overlooked for whites, you could not possibly understand that blacks HAVE successfully been independent of the system and thrived. All that was destroyed, not just in Tulsa, OK, but in several other communities. Jewish communities are all over the U.S. We have the Amish doing the same thing. Look at the Mormons. But blacks doing for themselves?  Oh no, we can’t possibly allow that. Yet these people and politicians will continue to point fingers and say blacks are lazy and apathetic.

Every American who cares about this nation should read this story. It will explain so many questions about what happened after slavery, Jim Crow and the escalation of racism today. It’s a story about power, envy, jealousy, hate, oppression…and evil. ~Marion Young

What happened to Black Wall Street on June 1, 1921?
San Francisco Bay View

Black Wall Street, the name fittingly given to one of the most affluent all-Black communities in America, was bombed from the air and burned to the ground by mobs of envious Whites. In a period spanning fewer than 12 hours, a once thriving Black business district in northern Tulsa lay smoldering – a model community destroyed and a major African-American economic movement resoundingly defused.

The night’s carnage left some 3,000 African Americans dead and over 600 successful businesses lost. Among these were 21 churches, 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores and two movie theaters, plus a hospital, a bank, a post office, libraries, schools, law offices, a half dozen private airplanes and even a bus system. As could have been expected, the impetus behind it all was the infamous Ku Klux Klan, working in consort with ranking city officials and many other sympathizers.

The best description of Black Wall Street, or Little Africa as it was also known, would be to compare it to a mini Beverly Hills. It was the golden door of the Black community during the early 1900s, and it proved that African Americans could create a successful infrastructure. That’s what Black Wall Street was all about.

The dollar circulated 36 to 100 times, sometimes taking a year for currency to leave the community. Now a dollar leaves the Black community in 15 minutes. As for resources, there were Ph.D.s residing in Little Africa, Black attorneys and doctors. One doctor was Dr. Berry, who owned the bus system. His average income was $500 a day, hefty pocket change in 1910.

These are Black-built, Black-owned buildings that were occupied by bustling Black businesses before envious whites rioted and destroyed them.

It was a time when the entire state of Oklahoma had only two airports, yet six Blacks owned their own planes. It was a very fascinating community.

The mainstay of the community was to educate every child. Nepotism was the one word they believed in. And that’s what we need to get back to. The main thoroughfare was Greenwood Avenue, and it was intersected by Archer and Pine Streets. From the first letters in each of those three names you get G.A.P. And that’s where the renowned R&B music group the GAP Band got its name. They’re from Tulsa.

At the end of the day, June 1, 1921, this is what remained of Black Wall Street. Lost forever were over 600 successful businesses, including 21 churches, 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores, two movie theaters, a hospital, a bank, a post office, libraries, schools, law offices, a half dozen private airplanes and a bus system.

Black Wall Street was a prime example of the typical Black community in America that did business, but it was in an unusual location. You see, at the time, Oklahoma was set aside to be a Black and Indian state. There were over 28 Black townships there. One third of the people who traveled in the terrifying “Trail of Tears” alongside the Indians between 1830 and 1842 were Black people. The citizens of this proposed Indian and Black state chose a Black governor, a treasurer from Kansas named McDade. But the Ku Klux Klan said that if he assumed office that they would kill him within 48 hours.

Here, the businesses that had been the economic engine of this most prosperous Black community in the U.S. are identified.

A lot of Blacks owned farmland, and many of them had gone into the oil business.

The community was so tight and wealthy because they traded dollars hand to hand and because they were dependent upon one another as a result of the Jim Crow laws. It was not unusual that if a resident’s home accidentally burned down, it could be rebuilt within a few weeks by neighbors. This was the type of scenario that was going on day to day on Black Wall Street.

When Blacks intermarried into the Indian culture, some of them received their promised “40 acres and a mule” and with that came whatever oil was later found on the properties. On Black Wall Street, a lot of global business was conducted.

The community flourished from the early 1900s until June 1, 1921. That’s when the largest massacre of nonmilitary Americans in the history of this country took place, and it was led by the Ku Klux Klan. Imagine walking out of your front door and seeing 1,500 homes being burned. It must have been amazing.

Survivors we interviewed think that the whole thing was planned, because during the time that all of this was going on, White families with their children stood around the borders of their community and watched the massacre – the looting and everything – much in the same manner they would watch a lynching. The riots weren’t caused by anything Black or White. They were caused by jealousy.

A lot of White folks had come back from World War I and they were poor. When they looked over into the Black communities and realized that Black men who fought in the war had come home heroes, that helped trigger the destruction. It cost the Black community everything, and not a single dime of restitution – no insurance claims – has been awarded the victims to this day. Nonetheless, they rebuilt.

We estimate 1,500 to 3,000 people were killed, and we know that a lot of them were buried in mass graves all around the city. Some were thrown into the river. As a matter of fact, at 21st Street and Yale Avenue, where there now stands a Sears parking lot, that corner used to be a coal mine. They threw a lot of the bodies into the shafts.

No Country For Young Black Men

Melissa Harris Perry…

If you are a young black man, who you are is threat enough

The police acted the very next day. A man was arrested, charged, and is in custody, being held without bond. So this–the alleged shooting of Jordan Russell Davis by Michael David Dunn, is not that–the shooting of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman.

But in so many other aspects of this case, the parallels are undeniable–another 17-year old African-American boy, shot and killed. The alleged assailant, an older white man, said he felt threatened–although the boy he is accused of shooting was reportedly unarmed. Another claim of self-defense to justify the killing, and in a “Stand Your Ground” state. Another pair of grieving parents, losing a child and seeking justice.

And again, that sense–for those of us who know and love them–that this is no country for young black men.

Which is why this week, I am addressing my open letter to whom it may concern.

It’s me, Melissa. And if you are like me, this latest news has got you concerned, indeed. Because here we are again. It has been barely a year since the killing of Trayvon Martin resurrected that old angst–long buried, but always there just below the surface. You know that feeling. It’s the one that makes us hear about Trayvon, and now Jordan Davis, and reach back across decades into our history, for the name of another boy named Emmett Till.

Then, it was a whistle at a white woman. Now, it’s a hooded sweatshirt or music being played loudly from a car.

But always, this one thing has been the same–No presumption of innocence for young black men. No benefit of the doubt. Guilt–not determined by what they did or said–but presumed to be inherent in their very being. They need not wield a weapon to pose a threat. Because, if you are a young, black man, who you are is threat enough. And in yet another case, it seems, that perceived threat is justification enough for someone who would play judge, jury and executioner.

Jordan Russell Davis will be laid to rest today. His father described his son as a typical teenager, who was looking forward to staring his first job, working at McDonald’s. He was saving up to buy his first car. The day before he died, his mother says, he gave the Thanksgiving dinner prayer, where he gave thanks for his family.

But before Jordan could be eulogized at his funeral, the defense team for the man who is accused of killing him was already telling a different story about who this young man was. According to police, Jordan and his three friends were sitting in an SUV at a Jacksonville gas station, when Dunn pulled up next to them and asked them to turn down their music down. Words were exchanged. This is the story Dunn’s attorney, Robin Lemonidis, about why her client felt threatened:

“He sees that much of a shotgun coming up over the rim of the SUV…and all he sees are heavily tinted front windows that are up and the back windows that are down, and the car has at least four black men in it, and he doesn’t know how old anyone is, and he doesn’t know anything, but he knows a shotgun when he sees one because he got his first gun as a gift from his grandparents when he was in third grade.”
Police have found no evidence that Jordan and his friends had any weapon in their car.

But Michael David Dunn, a registered gun owner, did have one. He used his gun to fire eight rounds into the boys’ vehicle. Two of those bullets struck and killed Jordan Davis, who was sitting in the backseat. Dunn fled the scene.

These are the facts as we know them today. As the investigation continues, details will no doubt continue to emerge. But as we watch the case unfold, let us be sure, while we are watching, that we continue to see in Jordan Davis what Michael Dunn did not–a human being, instead of a threat.

Sincerely,

Melissa

Because it needs to be said again and again and again…

This masterpiece was written by my dear friend, Tom Robinson. The images after the article are disturbing and are a reminder of what many of today’s racists would like to take us back to. The hate in the air today is thick, fueled by the greed of the GOP / Republicans / Tea Party who use the hate and ignorance of their base to achieve their agenda for the 1% rich and corporations WHO CARE NOT A WHIT ABOUT THEIR RACIST BASE. In fact, the GOP policies to dismantle Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and all social programs that were implemented years ago by FDR to keep Americans out of poverty are the same safety nets the GOP base needs…as do all Americans. In other words, they vote against their own interests out of ignorance and hate.

Today, we have one of the most humane, compassionate, wise, capable leaders this country has ever had who is fighting against almost 100% opposition from the 1% to help 99% of the people of this nation. The vast fortunes these 1% have are being poured into propaganda machines like Fox News, right wing politicians, pundits like Rush Limbaugh in a relentless bombardment to fuel the hate and lie to these people who listen to them. These people have no idea what the truth is. All they know is “We want our country back” and “get the black man out of the White House!” I hope this article goes viral as it is a powerful teaching lesson for America, and what is at the core of the rot that prevents this nation from moving forward. ~ Marion

( Because it needs to be said again and again and again )
by Tom Robinson

( Please understand that when I say ‘you’, I am not talking about everyone, but the one’s that I am talking about, know who they are.)

You can not snatch a person from their home, take them to a strange place, sell them like cattle, strip them naked literally, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, rob them of their language and culture (the very things that make them who they are), deny them an education and the bonds of family for 350 years and 100 years of Jim Crow, ( then expect them to be (“well-adjusted or healed” ) after only 48 years of (not so) ‘equal rights’.

The fact that there has been unprecedented Black achievement in America is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and resilience of a magnificent people. ~ Karen Stephens

Yes, in spite of not only throwing the kitchen sink at us, and all the appliances too, and putting every conceivable obstacle possible in our path and creating laws that only apply to us, so that we can be easily convicted and warehoused, and denying us a proper education with which we cannot get proper employment and treating us with disgust and disdain; for the last 450 years, ( still we rise…) And that is what burns your ass to the point that you have ( bought and paid for ) lawmakers; to re-double their efforts to strip away laws that were meant to help us and provide opportunities, and creating shams to prevent us from voting.

Yes, yes, yes, we understand that you think that everything is our fault; that if it wasn’t for us, your jobs would not have been out sourced or you wouldn’t have lost your homes and the economy would be better, and gas prices would be lower, and your savings wouldn’t have been wiped out. We understand that you’ve convinced yourself that we have international connections with multi national drug cartels, Customs and other law enforcement officials and the banking industry and are able to wash billions of dollars in drug money and have those same drugs shipped into the country, and then funneled into our communities where they have caused generations of devastation and havoc, and you blame us for broken homes due to systemic high black unemployment, and a lop-sided educational, judicial and justice system. And our children’s bright futures, have been dimmed, because we are lazy.

And oh, yeah, lets talk about the guns too. You know the one’s that are readily available and sold in this country; and protected by 2nd. amendment rights and the NRA and our corrupt politicians. Sure, you remember that, the guns that any sick lunatic can walk into any gun store and purchase, because some people are so fearful that some one is going to come and take them away, so they stockpile them as if their was going to be an apocalyptic invasion from another planet, or maybe a race war, that Fox News keeps warning you about.

Yes we know; that you think that it is all our fault, as well. And you’ve managed to convince a good portion of Americans too. You’ve convinced them to continuously vote against their own economic interests and excoriate programs that also help them; for fear that they would have to share something with us; and they have and they still do??? How else can you explain the Tea Party? ( Man, talk about selfishness to the extreme.)

But guess what? The world has been watching you; and some of those Americans are beginning to wake up, and they are sick and tired of having a national identity and description in the world, that Americans are motivated by hate…

We understand that you refuse to take any responsibility for situations that you created or have allowed to happen right under your nose; because of greed, blatant racism and willful ignorance. We understand that you suffer from the psychosis of privilege and are so blinded by hatred that you don’t realize ( or won’t accept ) that you are getting played too. You refuse to admit to yourself that the views we are forced to peruse are the exact same one’s that light your vista’s too, because you have someone else to blame, right? Well, just let me ask; how is that working out for you?

You cannot hold a man down without staying down there with him.

The only difference between us, and you is that you volunteer to stay down there with us and you do it to protect the rich and the powerful, who tell you that if you just keep believing their bullshit, then scraps from their table will trickle down to you too. And they continue to demonstrate; time and again, that they don’t give a rat’s ass about you, your jobs, your children’s future, your homes, your outsourced jobs, your college loans or your families’ health or well-being in general. But all of your problems are our fault; right?

Oh, did I forgot to mention that they really don’t care about your husbands, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons and daughters, ( some raped ) that they send off to wars for corporate profits who come home bruised and broken, spiritually, emotionally and otherwise. Only to be denied benefits and discharged from the military because of a personality disorder.

When will you get it; that we are all Americans and if this country is going to live up to it’s potential and ideals, we are going to have to start to embrace our differences and stop letting hate cloud our judgement.

Tom Robinson ~

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

The KKK used to hide under hoods. In 2012, they are now out in the open, thanks to Fox News, the Tea Party, Paul Ryan and other right wing politicians, and Rush Limbaugh
Duluth MN lynching – June 15, 1920 – Six black circus workers were accused of raping a white teenage girl. It was later discovered the girl was not raped or assaulted. No one was held accountable for the lynchings.
The nation was horrified by the kidnapping and brutal murder of 14 year old Emmett Till in 1955 who had whistled at a white woman. His face was bashed in so bad, he was unrecognizable. His mother authorized an open casket so the world could see what was done to her son. Blacks today have never forgotten the past from slavery, through Jim Crow, the lynchings and the current racism today. We see the current Republican Party/GOP/Tea Party and racists of these groups as dangerous to all blacks, minorities, gays and groups they target their hatred on.
From 1889 through the 1960s, lynching of blacks was common practice. In 1932, FDR passed a law against lynchings, but it didn’t stop there. Even after the passing of the Civil Rights Act (1964) through the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lynchings continued in the Deep South. Today in 2012, since white racists, police and militia groups cannot lynch, they kill blacks outright with guns. And our prisons are filled disproportionately with blacks due to an unfair judicial system.
Lynchings were common in the Deep South of Georgia, the Carolinas, Mississippi, Kentucky and, in particular, Florida after the emancipation of slaves. This was the cotton belt of the South where slaves built rich fortunes for whites with no compensation. It is no surprise that we see high injustices toward blacks, shootings like Trayvon Martin, and whites getting away with murder there.
This image from taken probably in the 1940s or 1950s. Change a few things and it is reminiscent of today’s Tea Party and their hate-filled signs and slogans. Click on the picture to see what the signs look like today.
Many town lynchings were accompanied by the town looking on enjoying the lynchings as if it were high entertainment. As Walter White said, former NAACP member who investigated 41 lynchings and 8 race riots in the early 1900s, “…, all of the lynchings and seven of the riots occurred in rural or semi-rural communities. The towns ranged in population from around one hundred
to ten thousand or so. The lynchings were not difficult to inquire into because of the fact already noted that those who perpetrated them were in nearly every instance simple-minded and easily fooled individuals.” http://nationalhumanitiescenter.org/pds/maai3/segregation/text2/investigatelynchings.pdf
