HISTORIC SENATE ACTION A VICTORY FOR DEMOCRATS

Historic Senate Action A Victory for Democrats
by Tracy Knauss

Today’s decision to limit the filibuster is a major victory for our Democratically controlled Senate, for President Obama and for American democracy. The final straw that caused Senator Harry Reid to use the “nuclear option” was Republican obstructionism which blocked four of Obama’s five nominees to the all-important D.C. Circuit Court, a court with privileged powers pertaining to cases involving the Executive and Legislative branches of government. This court has eleven members. Right now it has only eight active judges. Four Republicans and four Democrats. Bush appointed the four conservators on this court. Obama has the right to appoint three more, giving the court a solid Democratic majority on decisions regarding the EPA and even the Affordable Care Act.

So now President Obama will be able to make lifetime appointments to this powerful court and other federal benches as well. This will help swing the pendulum back to the Democrats and the American middle class. No longer can the minority Republican Party stifle the president’s nominees. The promiscuous use of the filibuster was due to the rise of the Tea Party and other radicals with no respect for government. These radicals want to destroy the government and nullify President Obama’s election victory. But today’s historic action in the U.S. Senate will put an end to a lot of that nonsense. It’s nice to see a modicum of reason return to what had been termed “the nation’s most deliberative body.”

Nuclear Option Provides Relief For Dispirited Dems

THE BIGGEST THREAT TO OUR DEMOCRACY? The Nullification Of A Presidency!
by Benjamin T Moore Jr

Elections *do* and *should* have consequences. Congressional Republicans have been committed to nullifying the Presidency of Barack Obama since the night of his first inauguration. The will of the people be damned!

Whether you love him or hate him… is *NOT* the point. The office is larger than the man. Unlike our previous President, President Obama was not appointed President by a panel of judges on a court stacked by his daddy. He was duly elected by a majority of the American people. He deserves the opportunity to enact his agenda. He deserves… the American People deserve for him to have his full cabinet filled. He deserves to have his appointments either confirmed or declined.

When one Party – ANY Party – takes it upon themselves to subrogate the collective will of the electorate, replacing it with their own agenda, Democracy dies. We no longer have a Constitutional Republic. What we have becomes an fascist oligarchy which will quickly degenerate into tyranny and despotism.

What Harry Reid did by changing the Senate rules ending the abuse of the procedural filibuster was to strike a blow for Democracy. Don’t be naive! Sequestration and the shutting down of the Government was all designed to deliver a one, two punch to the Affordable Care Act. Both came at a time when the federal government needed resources to launch the program correctly. The timing wasn’t an accident. Now of course, the Republicans are holding hearings to find out why things are going poorly. Republicans need look no further than their own mirror.

Rise Up or Die

I’m not a fan of Cornel West, nor do I think Eric Holder should be fired over the AP “scandal.” However, everything else about this article is right on time. It’s an EXCELLENT READ and a call to ACTION!!

Native Americans KNEW the air, land, mountains, rivers, oceans, animals, birds…everything is SACRED. Sacred to our well-being and lives. The greed of the wealthy, corporations and politicians is destroying us all, including them. How evil and stupid is it to think removing mountaintops in poor areas — that break the wind and help control climate — would not cause extreme disaster weather around the globe?

The winds begin in the West Coast. The beautiful mountain ranges here BREAK THE WIND as it reaches turbulent weather in the Mid West and tornado alley. These storms continue to the East Coast. With nothing to break their weather, the East Coast can expect horrendous hurricanes and colder weather. You can see that in your area. The seasons are changing and are extreme.

Native Americans KNEW that the oil and jewels deep in the ground are the VEINS aka the blood of the earth. It takes hundreds, even thousands of years for fossil fuels to regenerate. Trees too. The Rain Forests of Brazil have been a buffer for the entire planet. It too, has been decimated. The ice caps in Antarctica have melted, animals are migrating to areas they’ve never been before, while we are worried about Dancing With The Stars and the latest soap opera on the idiot tube.

Native Americans blessed the animals and food they ate because they KNEW it was for our sustenance and without it we could not live. Our food is being controlled and manipulated in labs to the point where we call it MONSTER FOOD. You wouldn’t want to give these GMO foods/seeds to a dog. It is changing our DNA.

Native Americans knew the water is PRECIOUS. We can go weeks without food, but only a few days without water. It is the MOST CRITICAL need for all life. Corporations have polluted our drinking water. Water is about to be privatized…and it will be expensive.

As this article says, it is time to rebel. ~MY

Rise Up or Die

Joe Sacco and I spent two years reporting from the poorest pockets of the United States for our book “Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt.” We went into our nation’s impoverished “sacrifice zones” — the first areas forced to kneel before the dictates of the marketplace — to show what happens when unfettered corporate capitalism and ceaseless economic expansion no longer have external impediments. We wanted to illustrate what unrestrained corporate exploitation does to families, communities and the natural world. We wanted to challenge the reigning ideology of globalization and laissez-faire capitalism to illustrate what life becomes when human beings and the ecosystem are ruthlessly turned into commodities to exploit until exhaustion or collapse. And we wanted to expose as impotent the formal liberal and governmental institutions that once made reform possible, institutions no longer equipped with enough authority to check the assault of corporate power.

What has taken place in these sacrifice zones — in postindustrial cities such as Camden, N.J., and Detroit, in coalfields of southern West Virginia where mining companies blast off mountaintops, in Indian reservations where the demented project of limitless economic expansion and exploitation worked some of its earliest evil, and in produce fields where laborers often endure conditions that replicate slavery — is now happening to much of the rest of the country. These sacrifice zones succumbed first. You and I are next.

The Real History of The Poverty Tours

Poverty Tour

Many thanks to my friend Eric Wattree for putting the pieces of the puzzle together to explain why these two knee-grows tried to undermine President Obama and endear themselves to the black community. Turns out, they are like the cockroaches that scour the kitchen floor at night for scraps.

Source:  The Wattree Chronicle

The hostility that Tavis Smiley and Cornel West have for President Obama is so transparent that if it were glass we would have walked right through it and cut ourselves to shreds. These two are shameless, and it’s a national disgrace how the establishment media is allowing them to prance around posing as the savior of the poor and middle class – in fact, they’re even helping to promote them with continuous interviews that allow them to perpetuate their fraudulent image.
.
These two thought that they were gonna become the Grand Dragons of the Black Community – which is a very profitable gig when you’re in the business of selling ALEC-connected corporations access to the Black community like Tavis Smiley. Tavis is the biggest corporate shill in the Black community. He fronts for Wal-Mart, Wells Fargo, Exxon/Mobile, Allstate Ins., Nationwide Ins., etc. – a veritable who’s who of the corporations that are most responsible for victimizing the poor and middle class in the country, and who are spending millions of dollars to obstruct minority voter rights. That’s what makes it so ironic that they’re trying to portray themselves as the saviors of “the poor minorities.”
.
During Obama’s first campaign for president Smiley and West had already hitched their wagons to Hillary Clinton. She was 37 points ahead of Obama in the Black community at the time, so they were all set to gain the clout, prestige, and riches of having presidential access and being acknowledged as the new grand viziers of the Black community. But then, Obama won the election, in spite of their most ardent effort, and he caught them by surprise. In fact, Cornel West tried to jump the fence and began campaigning for Obama when it became clear that Obama might actually win, but Obama wasn’t having it. That’s what caused the controversy over West not being invited to the inaugural celebration.
.
At the time, West tried to frame the issue like Obama was an ingrate for not inviting him to the inauguration after he campaigned for him. But he failed to mention the fact that less than an hour after Obama announced his candidacy for President of the United States West went on national television and told the Black community that Obama couldn’t be trusted.

.
That’s right – on the very day that Obama went to Springfield, Illinois to maximize the historic significance of announcing his candidacy for president in the shadow of Lincoln’s former statehouse instead of coming on Tavis’ “State of the Black Union” jibfest, West stood up and did an impassioned rant indicating that Obama couldn’t be trusted to be president because he didn’t come on the Tavis Smiley show, as though Tavis was the gatekeeper of the Black community – and all the while Tavis is standing there grinnin’ like a chess cat as though they’d caught Obama committing some sort of unconscionable act.
.
Look at the video below and notice how entitled West sounds, as though it was more appropriate for Obama to come kiss Tavis’ ring than to announce his candidacy in the shadow of Lincoln’s former statehouse. I remember becoming slack-jawed at his unmitigated arrogance. Up until that moment I had been a big fan of both Tavis and West, but that was when I first realized that they were egomaniacal fools. That was also the morning that I started investigating them, and I’ve written nearly 30 articles on them since.
.
The video is also ironically prophetic. Notice how even as West is lecturing the nation on how Obama is surrounding himself with people who can’t be trusted, you can see Wells Fargo and Exxon/Mobil logos floating by in the background behind him. What makes that so prophetically ironic is Tavis was later involved in the Wells Fargo “Ghetto Loans” scam, where Wells Fargo ended up having to settled a lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice agreeing to pay poor and middle-class minorities $175 million as a result of the scam. This is the biggest scandal EVER perpetrated by a Black man on the Black community, but the establishment media is refusing to cover it. That’s why I’ve become so fixated on bringing the machinations of these two demagogues to the attention of the Black community.

.

So the Bottom Line is this – when people like myself criticize Tavis Smiley, Cornel West, or Boyce Watkins, we’re not criticizing them because they’re critical of President Obama; our problem with them is they’re cherry-picking their facts and telling half-truths to promote their own agenda.
.

HEY, AREN’T YOU THE SAME GUY
WHO SAID I COULDN’T BE TRUSTED?

A prime example of that is they are going out of their way NOT to tell the Black community that the United States Constitution gives sole control of spending to the United States House of Representatives, which is controlled by the Republicans. So the only way that President Obama can spend any money to assist the Black community, or anyone else, is to get the Republican House to go along with him.
.
That’s why it’s so important for the president to hold together a coalition of Blacks, women, gays, Hispanics, and every other segment of the American population. He needs ALL of us to place pressure on the Republicans to loosen the purse strings in order for him to get anything done. So anytime you hear Tavis, West, or Watkins pointing their finger at what President Obama is doing for any other segment of the population, they’re doing you a disservice.
.
Here’s how politics works – “you support me when I need you, and I’ll support you when you need me.” So whenever President Obama does anything for other segments of the population, he’s building up political capital so he can help you. But, of course, he doesn’t discuss what he’s doing for the Black community for a very good reason – as Cornel says himself (when it’s convenient), “Race Matters.”
.
These gentlemen know full well that if President Obama runs around bragging about what he’s doing for the Black community, the Republicans are going to use that as leverage to tear his coalition apart. They would tell women, gays, Hispanics, and everyone else in America that Obama doesn’t care about them; all he wants to do is help his own people, and that message hurts the Black community. Don’t these so-called intellectuals recognize that? If they don’t, they’re dumb. If they do, that means that they’re purposely trying to mislead you. The question, then, is why?

.
So the fact is, when people like Tavis, West, and Watkins run around telling you that the proof that President Obama is not working for you is that he refuses to throw his fist in the air, these people are working against you, not for you – and they know it. You see, their primary agenda is NOT about helping the Black community. Their agenda is about tearing President Obama down, and again, that hurts you. But they don’t care – and that’s the problem.

Let us all promise to get involved and engaged in 2013 to prevent another 2012 from happening again…or at least keep the man-made events to a minimum.

Christmas gifts for the rich who don’t want to pay taxes

Price: $125,000

While the Republican Party is “flabbergasted” over President Obama’s proposal to let the Bush tax cuts expire so the wealthy can pay their fair share of taxes as they did during the Clinton presidency — AND FAR LESS THAN DURING FDR’S LEADERSHIP — which created jobs and balanced the books, these greedy specimen called humans are fighting tooth and nail to avoid paying up.

If you knew what they do with their money that is untaxed — AND THE OFFSHORE ACCOUNTS WHERE THEY HIDE IT — you would be outraged and in the streets ready to throw these crooks out of office.

Take a good, long hard look at this toy. Consider the person who will buy and receive this. Consider their mentality and morality and concern over people like me and you who have worked hard all our lives and still struggle to pay the bills and survive. Think about those who live at the poverty level and how these wealthy people think of them.

While the Republicans are fighting over paying higher taxes, this battle could mean you pay $2000 more next year if they get their way. What does $2000 mean to you?

$9,000

Lipstick on a Pig

Republicans are struggling to reinvent themselves, but that’s not going to be easy. They’ve stubbornly adhered to their extreme and/or small-minded conservative beliefs and policies, because that’s who they are, at least for the most part. Here are a few examples from a post I wrote back in 2011 during the Wisconsin protests:

The GOP has no foresight or grasp of the health of our planet and wants to do away with the Environmental Protection Agency.

The GOP wants to do away with unions.

The GOP wants to do away with the middle class.

The GOP wants to do away with the Democratic party.

The GOP wants to do away with free speech and expression.

The GOP wants to do away with human dignity.

The GOP wants to do away with civility toward anyone who is not like them, meaning white and/or Christian.

The GOP wants to do away with health care for anyone but the wealthiest Americans… Especially women’s health care.

The GOP wants to do away with allowing two people who love each other to marry each other.

The GOP wants to do away with freedom of choice.

The GOP wants to do away with taxes for the very wealthy, not to mention productive spending and job growth at the expense of the health and welfare of this country.

We need to do away with the extreme demands of the GOP. We have no choice… but that’s exactly what they want.

Which brings us to 2012, when Mitt Romney famously said, “It would be helpful to be Latino.”

And Bobby Jindal said, “If we want people to like us, we have to like them first.” In that post I noted that it’s one thing to be introspective and see the error of your ways. It’s quite another to do an abrupt 180 and pretend you care, hoping nobody will notice that you’re pandering your ass off.

All these people who are professing to belong to the no-longer-divisive party are sadly laughable. Who did they vote for again? Who did they openly support? Oh yeah, the guy who wished self-deportation on undocumented immigrants.

Karl Rove is now saying something similar to what Jindal said. Notice the wording.

KFDI-FM: Rove said the Republican party is splintered because of intolerant and judgmental language and an unwillingness to acknowledge differences. He said the party needs to find the right language to talk about the issues without being judgmental or harsh, and it needs to have leaders who can create that kind of environment.

So as long as you don’t sound intolerant (or racist, or bigoted), as long as you can pretend you’re one thing while believing another, as long as you put on a good show, you’ll dupe Americans into voting for you. Never mind genuine outreach, just say the right words, sell the right product, be extra careful to couch your disdain in prettier language and voila!

Superficial fixes will pave the way to big election wins if they’re wrapped up real purty with a big bow. Those ignorami will never catch on, right Karl?

Ryan’s ‘Secret’ Tape Is Even More Extreme Than Romney’s

Could this be the October Surprise? Because when seniors, the middle class, low income people, disabled and those with children hear about this, I expect to see pitchforks coming after Ryan and Romney. Unbelievable.

H/T Huffington Post

“Seniors are looters.” Wonder how that would have gone over at the AARP? “Disabled veterans are looters.” How would that play at the local VFW?

This recording confirms that the GOP’s Vice Presidential candidate is the most politically extreme major-party candidate in living memory. His views have already drawn the opposition of Catholic theologians, as well as advocates for lower-income people, the middle class, seniors, the disabled and children.

If those views were better known, they’d also alienate independents, Democrats and seniors, as well as most Republicans and Tea Party members.

And by “alienate,” we mean terrify.
