This excellent article is from 2012 and is even more on target today…

An Open Letter to People Who Hate Obama More Than They Love America
by MinistryOfTruth

I meet you all the time. You hate Obama. You hate gay people. You hate black people, immigrants, Muslims, labor unions, women who want the right to make choices concerning their bodies, you hate em all. You hate being called racist. You hate being called a bigot. Maybe if you talked about creating jobs more than you talk about why you hate gay people we wouldn’t call you bigots. Maybe if you talked about black people without automatically assuming they are on food stamps while demanding their birth certificates we wouldn’t call you racist. You hate socialism and social justice. You hate regulations and taxes and spending and the Government. You hate.

You like war. You like torture. You like Jesus. I don’t know how in the hell any of that is compatible, but no one ever accused you haters of being over-committed to ideological consistency. You like people who look like you or at least hate most of the things that you hate. You hate everything else.

Now, I know you profess to love our country and the founding fathers (unless you are reminded that they believed in the separation of church and state), but I need to remind you that America is NOT what Fox News says it is. America is a melting pot, it always has been. We are a multi-cultural amalgamation of all kinds of people, and yet you still demonize everyone who is not a rich, white, heterosexual christian male or his submissive and obedient wife.

You hate liberals, moderates, hell, anyone who disagrees with Conservative dogma as espoused by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. You hate em.

Well, here are the facts, Jack. If you hate the Government then you are unqualified to manage it. If you hate gay people more than you love America than you should take your own advice and get the hell out. There are several countries that are openly hostile to gay people, but they are full of brown people and you don’t like them much either from what I understand. It looks like you are screwed, but that’s not what I am here to tell you.

Now that you have thrown everything and the kitchen sink at President Obama and it still hasn’t worked you are panicking. Obama’s approval ratings are still near 50% despite your best efforts to undermine the economy and America’s recovery at every step you can. You tried to hold the American economy hostage to force America into default on its’ debts, debts that YOU rang up under Bush, so you could blame it on Obama and it failed. You’ve used the filibuster more than any other Congress ever, going so far as to vote against providing health care access to 9/11 first responders. You remember 9/11, don’t you, it’s that thing you used to lie us into a war in Iraq, and then when Obama killed Bin Laden and ended the war in Iraq you told people that he hates America and wants the troops to fail. You monsters. You hate Obama with a passion, despite the fact that he is a tax cutting, deficit reducing war President who undermines civil rights and delivers corporate friendly watered down reforms that benefit special interests just like a Republican. You call him a Kenyan. You call him a socialist. You dance with your hatred singing it proudly in the rain like it was a 1950’s musical.

Frankly, you disgust me. Your hatred nauseates me. Your bigotry offends me. Your racism revolts me.

Dear haters, I am openly questioning your patriotism.

I think you hate gays, Obama, black people, poor people, all of us, women, atheists and agnostics, Latinos, Muslims, Liberals, all of us, I think you hate every one who isn’t exactly like you, and I think you hate us more than you love your country.

I think you hate gay soldiers more than you want America to win its wars.

I don’t even think you want America to win wars, you just want America to have wars, never ending wars and the war profiteering it generates. You love that kind of spending, you love spending on faith based initiatives and abstinence based sex education (George Carlin would have loved that one), you love spending on subsidies for profitable oil corporations, you spend like drunken sailors when you are in the White House, but if it is a Democrat then suddenly you cheer when America doesn’t get the Olympics because it might make the black President look bad. But oooh you love your country, you say, and you want it back. Well listen here skippy, it isn’tyour country, you don’t own it, it is our country, and America is NOT the religiously extremist Foxbots who hate science, elitist professors and having a vibrant and meaningful sex life with someone we love if Rick Santorum doesn’t approve of it. Rick Santorum isn’t running for America’s fucking high school dance chaperone, he should probably just shut the hell up about sex, but he can’t because he has nothing else to run on.

Republicans can NOT win on the issues. They’ve got NOTHING. All they have is a divide and conquer class war that pits ignorant racist and bigoted people against the rest of us in a meaningless battle of wedge issues and the already proven to fail George W. Bush agenda again of tax cuts for the rich, deregulation, privatization and war profiteering and nothing else, so all they can do is blame black people, gays the government, anybody and everyone else for their own failings. The party of personal responsibility, my ass.

But they love multi-national corporations, just ask a gay hating and racist religious extremist if they think Corporations are people and they will gladly agree, but if you ask them if gay people are people they aren’t so sure.

Dear haters, you are the cruel, heartless misinformed assholes who would sell America out to Haliburton in a heartbeat, you would rather pay ZERO taxes than you would see a newly born baby get access to quality health care, you cheer when we discuss denying health care to young people with preventable diseases, and you boo when we discuss the First Ladies plan to cut back on childhood obesity. You are a cross to carry and a flag to wrap yourself in away from being the people who Sinclair Lewis warned us about, but I guarantee that if Fox News told you to dress that way you would, because you are the same blind, ignorant and closed minded dunces who drove this country into a civil war years ago because you are bound to the notion that some men are more equal than others. In short, the reason I proudly wear my union army hat is because of seditious sell outs like you who constantly fuck over working class Americans so a foreign entrepreneur like Rupert Murdoch can get a bigger tax break. If corporations are people, they are neither American patriots nor capable of love. Just like you.

So stop wearing your hate with pride. Stop celebrating your anti-science, anti-math ignorance. Stop using code words to mask your bigotry like “family values”, especially when you hate my family and when you stand on the same stage as a guy who has had three marriages or if you share a seat in the Senate with a guy who cheated on his wife with hookers while wearing diapers. You should be ashamed. I know that you are just doing this to motivate your misinformed hate cult base because if they actually knew that your ideas will make them poorer than they are now, they would never vote for you. You are doing your best to impoverish your countrymen so rich people can get bigger tax breaks and you can keep on delivering corporate welfare to the special interests who have bribed you, and I am disgusted by the way you gleefully parade your hatred with aplomb. I don’t think you do love America. At least, not as much as you hate everyone in America who isn’t exactly like you.

You should think about that, and maybe get some help.

And for the record, I do not hate you. I am embarrassed by you and nauseated by your cruel and thoughtless behavior and your all consuming greed, but I do not hate you. I forgive you and I hope you can change someday, but I don’t hate you. You have enough hate in you for the rest of us as it is.

Sometimes the only way to win is not to play!

Benjamin T. Moore, Jr. raises an excellent point:

When use of the “N-Word,” becomes the litmus test for racism, then ardent racist like Rush Limbaugh can claim to be non-racist because no one has yet to come forward to out him for having said it. White people who are comfortable with their separatist attitudes – many don’t realize they have them – are quick to seize on use of the “N-Word” as being the litmus test. “So long as I don’t say that word, I’m not a racist!” Thus they can support all manner of racist positions. The President is Kenyan. He wasn’t born here. He’s un-American, our economic woes are due to minorities on welfare… on and on.

Paula Deen – bless her soul – simply doesn’t get it. In truth, because of her history and upbringing, she may well be incapable of ever getting it. She’s not the problem. You can see her coming from a “Y’all” away. The problem is the corporate bigwigs that run corporations like the Food Network. They’re racist to their core. When Paula Deen started talking about the beauty of an “Old Southern Wedding” served by Black people dressed as Slaves, they should have cut ties with her back then. They might have said that her views were inconsistent with the audience they were trying to build and attract. They did not. They were comfortable chalking it up to her eccentricities. Why? Because for them, the litmus test for racism is use of the “N-Word.”

A white banker doesn’t have to call a black person applying for a loan a “nigger.” All he has to do is make sure he gets his loan at a higher interest rate. An insurance company doesn’t have to call a Black person a “nigger,” all they have to do is determine where minority communities are located and designate those areas for higher insurance rates. The company a Black person works for doesn’t have to call them a “nigger.” All they have to do is pay them less than the white person working beside them doing the exact same job. When we allow use of the “N-Word” to become the litmus test for racism, we are deluding ourselves about reality and the way the world works.

The Right Wing Crazies Are Howling

Original article by Julie Driscoll

For three and a half years there have been viable threats, of one form or another, to this President, beginning the night of his inauguration: While we were crying and cheering and gathering joyfully in Grant Park, dark forces on the right – including Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan, Pete Sessions, Jim DeMint, Jon Kyl, Newt Gingrich and Frank Luntz – wrung their hands and gnashed their teeth and vowed to oppose every one of President Obama’s legislative proposals, and ultimately derail President Obama’s presidency. We’ve seen that vow backed by Republican actions – often irrational action – time and again. Republicans vowed, that night, to win back power, by any means, any measure. This President must go.

In Washington, the plot to upend President Obama was largely legislative, but in the “real world,” the threat has taken a more dangerous turn: Race-based hostility driven by the knuckle-draggers of society and resulting in an organization – the teabaggers – which had group hatred of our first black president as its common theme. As the ‘baggers drove home their convoluted and idiotic message of fear, fear, fear (“taxed enough already” and “socialism” and “keep your government hands off our Medicare”), the threat escalated into group sociopathy, as Republicans, in pursuit of their own derailment campaign, gleefully joined forces with the ‘baggers and misled, misinformed, mainlined on fear, predicted dire consequences as a result of any and all of President Obama’s policies (even the ones once heartily embraced by Republicans), threw terms like “socialist” and “treason” around loosely, and accused the President of being the greatest threat to liberty and the American way since liberty and the American way were invented. The birthers were born. The number of white supremacist groups grew. Bunker mentality led by Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh went full bore. Right-wing opposition was complete. The fear of President Obama was complete. Hatred: Complete.

The teabaggers ushered in a new era of extremely dogmatic conservative candidates across the land; the House of Representatives was soon overflowing with the likes of Steve King, Allen West and Michele Bachmann, and tea party governors like Scott Walker, Rick Scott, and Rick Snyder made their sloppy debuts. President Obama’s policies began to stimulate the economy, private sector jobs started coming back, people started to feel the effects of Obamacares. And as his successes grew, the desire to see him fail grew to a fever pitch: His jobs plan – along with any other proposed legislation – was kaboshed by Republicans, more and more government jobs were eliminated by Republicans, the evil of unions became the focus of the right, and they always pushed the fear – this President is not one of us, is not American, is plotting against us, wants to redistribute rich peoples’ wealth to poor people. Court battles raged over President Obama’s birth certificate, the legitimacy of his presidency, lawsuits sprang up in response to his policies, and, in particular, the Affordable Care Act.

And through it all, one hope sprang eternal: Hang in there, the right told themselves and each other, we only have to put up with this for four years. He’ll be gone after one term.

But it’s looking like he won’t be. In a single week, Arizona’s harsh anti-immigrant law was stripped of its teeth and the Affordable Care Act was upheld by the Supreme Court, became the law of the land. More rending of right-wing garments and gnashing of teabagging teeth, vows to repeal it, insistence on everyone on the right being in complete and total lockstep against it. When the Affordable Care Act was granted legitimacy by the Supreme Court last week, became the law of the land, survived the challenges, it enraged Republicans beyond reason, imbued in them a mission to defeat this man once and for all. In response to the news that the ACA was upheld by the Supreme Court, the threat to this courageous, committed man with a steely spine and teflon coating has escalated to a level that puts our President at greater and greater risk – and not just legislatively.

Even before the Supreme Court ruled on the Affordable Care Act, violent craziness eruped – an Arizona GOP Senate candidate, in a campaign ad, literally blew away (as in with a gun) the President’s signature healthcare reform act. But following the announcement that the Affordable Care Act was upheld, the level of rage escalated to an all-time high. Threats of violence have erupted. A Mississippi Tea Party leader called the Obama Administration “a gang of criminals” who “subvert legitimate government offices and seize all power to themselves without the real consent of the governed,” and declared that “their every act and edict is of itself illegal and is outside the bounds of the Rule of Law.” He urged his followers “. . . To resist by all means that are right in the eyes of God is not rebellion or insurrection, it is patriotic resistance to invasion . . . And, may godly courageous leaders rise up in His wisdom and power to lead us in displacing the criminal invaders from their seats and restore our constitutional republic.” A New Hampshire Tea Party leader said that he hoped the members of the Supreme Court who ruled to uphold Obamacares “get colon cancer.” One wonders what they want to see happen to this President, who stood firmly behind healthcare reform, rose to the challenge, pushed back, and won.

Commentators such as Glenn Beck – who continue to peddle the notion that freedom was invalidated the day the Affordable Care Act became the unchallenged law of the land – made veiled threats: ”Look out progressives. This is when America is at her best, and you’ll never see us coming, because you don’t understand us. When there is two minutes left in the game, and we are behind, that’s when we come out and kick some a**.”

There are no sane voices within the right wing of this country to stop these people. There are no strong leaders who will step up and condemn calls to violence. In fact, the code words have worked just exactly as Republicans expected them to: The dog whistle to the right brought out the crazies, and – as they pledged on the night of President Obama’s inauguration – Republicans will shamelessly accept as legitimate anyone who can do damage to this president. Any kind of damage. Legislative damage, literal damage, makes no difference to these people, this pack of howling jackals who have whipped themselves into a rage-filled frenzy.

The rage has a target: President Obama. He’s the freedom thief, a Kenyan-born, illegitimate, arrogant, uppity “messiah” who has proven to be a formidable adversary instead of the weak target many on the right predicted, and hoped, he’d be. Teabaggers are writhing in impotent fury with no outlet. This President has calmly bested them at every turn, has made them look foolish as he scores victories, and is only getting stronger.

These absolutely irrational people on the right, these people blinded by fury and encouraged by the leaders of their party to act out their rage, have become a dangerous physical threat to President Obama. As they’ve watched their dreams of tearing apart his largest accomplishments fall apart, the realization has started to dawn that this man may, in fact, be leading this nation for another term. Their dreams of a one-term president are fading and, with it, what rationality they ever had is circling the drain. President Obama began as a nuisance, stepped up to become a serious opponent, and is now their greatest menace.

As British novelist Jeanette Winterson noted, “I think it would be very foolish not to take the irrational seriously.”

Let’s not be fools.

As I wrote earlier this year, we must brace ourselves this summer and fall when we can expect the most low, racist and deplorable things to come out of these racists. It will shock the entire nation and world, except these demons and those of us who know the history of America. This hatred, insanity and ignorance has been at the core of this country. I’m glad our diseased, rotten nation is finally being hung out for the world to see. Vote accordingly. Marion
